This course describes the phenomenology of galaxies as determined by recent observational data. Topics include the characteristics and distribution of stars; radiation from the interstellar medium (hydrogen, molecular gas and dust); the kinematics of the stellar and gaseous components of the Milky Way; the formation and evolution of galaxies and clusters of galaxies. Prerequisite: PHYS 3180 (016.318) (C).
